Signpost has welcomed a surprise donation of £1,000 from the local Amazon team when they visited the site for a tour.
Our Hemel Hempstead base is on St. Mary’s Road, and has been serving the South and West Hertfordshire community since 1973, working with young people aged 11-25 to help them overcome problems in their lives. In 2016-17, we supported nearly 500 young people facing issues such as abuse, depression and anxiety. The donation will go towards the continuation of this valuable service, which includes life coaching, social outings, community outreach and drop-in appointments.
The team at Amazon’s Hemel Hempstead site invited some of us, as charity representatives, for a behind-the-scenes look at the fulfilment centre. We got to see how the team prepares customer orders for different parts of the site from inbound to shipping.
Speaking on the donation, General Manager at Amazon Hemel Hempstead, Lorenzo Barbo, said:
“We really enjoyed welcoming Signpost to the fulfilment centre. The charity does some amazing hands-on work with young people in Hemel Hempstead and we’re happy to be able to lend a helping hand. The staff and volunteers are very passionate about what they do, promoting confidence and happiness amongst young people locally.”
As our CEO, William Allen, added:
“The young people really enjoyed getting to see Amazon’s amazing high-tech fulfilment centre and how the site works, it was fantastic to meet those behind this generous donation. We wouldn’t be able to keep running our services without support like this. We see the real impact of counselling on young people every day and this contribution will help us continue promoting positive mental health for young people in Hemel Hempstead and beyond.”
The donation forms part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
