They say that young people and the elderly are the two most socially isolated categories in society. So, this summer we have been exploring what happens if you bring the two groups together. Our Hemel Social Group visited St Mary’s House Residential Home in Hemel’s Old Town and Our Watford Social Group have been visiting the residents of St Mary’s Almshouses.
Not only have some lovely bonds been forged, but the groups find they have more in common than they expected. The Watford group is working on a booklet exploring the similarities and differences between growing up now and growing up 60 years-ago. One of the Hemel group has got a volunteer placement to support their Health and Social Care course at West Herts College. Who says old people are boring?!
